4 DAYS MARRAKECH TO FES PRIVATE DESERT TOUR

The 4 Days Marrakech to Fes Desert Tour is the most rewarding way to journey between Morocco’s two greatest imperial cities. This carefully crafted route takes you through the very best of southern Morocco — over the High Atlas Mountains, past the UNESCO Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, through the dramatic Dades and Todra Gorges, and deep into the Sahara desert of Merzouga — before heading north along the Ziz Valley to Fes.

A full day is dedicated to exploring the Merzouga desert, including a visit to a nomadic Berber family, a 4×4 desert tour, and a magnificent camel ride at sunset. Spectacular sunrises and sunsets over the Erg Chebbi dunes make this an unforgettable visual journey. A stop near Azrou in the Middle Atlas may also bring an encounter with wild Barbary macaques in their cedar forest home.

DAY 1: MARRAKECH → HIGH ATLAS MOUNTAINS → AIT BEN HADDOU KASBAH → DADES GORGES

Your journey begins with an early pick-up from your accommodation in Marrakech. Heading south through the winding Tizi n’Tichka mountain pass, the landscape gradually shifts from the red walls of Marrakech to the dramatic terrain of the High Atlas — a world of rocky ridges, remote villages, and breathtaking vistas.

The first major stop is Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the finest examples of pre-Saharan Moroccan architecture. The ksar’s layered towers of clay and straw rise above the valley in a configuration that feels both ancient and timeless.

Continuing east through Ouarzazate — the gateway to the Sahara — you follow the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs to your first night’s accommodation in the Dades Gorges, where canyon walls frame a dramatic evening landscape.

DAY 2: DADES GORGES → TODRA GORGE → MERZOUGA DESERT

After breakfast, the morning drive takes you through a landscape of palmeries and ancient villages to Tinghir. Here, the entrance to the Todra Gorge awaits — a narrow slot canyon of extraordinary scale, where towering limestone walls press in close on both sides. It is a short but powerful walk, a place of dramatic silence and geological wonder.

From Tinghir, you head southeast into the desert. The terrain grows drier and more open until the majestic dunes of Erg Chebbi appear ahead. You arrive in the late afternoon, just in time to witness the first of your desert sunsets from the back of a camel as it carries you gently across the sand.

Your luxury desert camp provides a warm dinner, lively Berber music, and a private tent for the night.

DAY 3: FULL DAY TO EXPLORE THE SAHARA DESERT

The entire third day is set aside for the Merzouga desert — and with good reason. After the sunrise, your private guide leads you on a 4×4 excursion through the desert, visiting an outlying nomadic family whose lifestyle offers a profound contrast to the modern world. You will share tea, learn about their traditions, and gain insight into a culture rooted in the rhythms of the desert.

The afternoon is open for sandboarding, photography, or simply wandering the dunes. At sunset, you ride your camel out to the highest dune to watch the sun sink below the horizon. The evening returns to the camp for dinner under the stars.

DAY 4: MERZOUGA → ZIZ VALLEY → IFRANE → FES

Breakfast at the camp, then the final stretch of the journey. Heading north, the road follows the Ziz Valley — one of Morocco’s most beautiful river corridors, lined with date palms and ancient mud-brick ksour — before climbing into the cooler air of the Middle Atlas Mountains.

Near Azrou, wild Barbary macaques may make an appearance in the cedar forest alongside the road. The picturesque mountain town of Ifrane, known for its red-roofed European-style architecture, offers a charming contrast before the road descends to Fes. You arrive at your hotel or riad in the late afternoon.

How do I pay for my tour?

Paying for your tour is straightforward. A small upfront deposit is required at the time of booking to secure your spot — this can be sent via PayPal, bank transfer, or Wise. The outstanding balance is then settled directly with your driver or guide on the first day of your trip, accepted in euros, US dollars, or Moroccan dirhams.

Morocco’s official currency is the Moroccan Dirham (MAD). While major hotels and larger establishments tend to accept credit cards, smaller markets and towns generally operate on a cash-only basis, so it’s advisable to carry local currency.

Absolutely. The tour can be fully tailored to match your preferences — whether that means adding extra destinations, upgrading your accommodation, or switching to alternative transport such as a private 4×4 vehicle.

Yes, camel rides are commonly included in desert tour packages, typically used to cross the dunes on the way to your overnight camp.

Camel rides are a standard part of desert experiences and are used to reach the overnight camp by crossing the dunes.

Guests stay in traditional Berber-style tents within a desert camp setting. Amenities include comfortable bedding, warm blankets, shared or private bathroom facilities (depending on the camp category), and a shared dining area for meals and socializing.

The policy varies based on how far in advance you cancel relative to your departure date. A booking deposit is required to hold your reservation, and partial or full refunds may apply depending on the notice given.
