DAY 1: CASABLANCA → RABAT → CHEFCHAOUEN

Your private tour begins with a pick-up from Casablanca’s Mohammed V International Airport or your hotel. The first stop is the Hassan II Mosque — Morocco’s most spectacular place of worship, its minaret rising 210 metres above the Atlantic Ocean. After visiting its grand exterior, the journey continues north to Rabat, Morocco’s capital.

In Rabat, you visit the iconic Hassan Tower — the soaring minaret of a 12th-century mosque left incomplete after the sultan’s death — along with the beautiful Mausoleum of Mohammed V and the ancient Kasbah of the Udayas, whose blue and white lanes overlook the mouth of the Bouregreg river.

After lunch in Rabat, the road climbs northeast into the Rif Mountains, arriving in the early evening at Chefchaouen — Morocco’s most photographed city, famous for its dreamy blue-washed medina. Check in and explore at your own pace.

DAY 2: CHEFCHAOUEN → FES

A morning of wandering the blue lanes of Chefchaouen before departing for Fes. The drive winds through the Rif Mountains and across the rolling plains of northern Morocco, arriving in Fes in the afternoon.

Founded in the 9th century, Fes is Morocco’s oldest and most complex imperial city. Its medina — Fes el-Bali — is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the world’s largest living medieval urban environments. Check in to your riad for the night and enjoy a first glimpse of this extraordinary city.

DAY 3: GUIDED TOUR OF FES

A full day dedicated entirely to exploring Fes Medina with the guidance of a knowledgeable local guide. The city’s 9,000 narrow alleyways, ancient mosques, madrasas, and workshops can be bewildering without expert guidance — with a guide, they become a series of revelations.

Key sights include the Chouara Tanneries — where leather has been dyed in stone vats for centuries — the ornate Bou Inania Madrasa, the Al-Qarawiyyin Mosque (home to the world’s oldest university), the Andalusian Quarter, and the vibrant souks where artisans craft ceramics, brasswork, textiles, and woodwork using techniques passed down through generations.

DAY 4: FES → IFRANE → MIDDLE ATLAS MOUNTAINS → ZIZ VALLEY → MERZOUGA DESERT

An early departure from Fes begins one of Morocco’s most rewarding drives. The route climbs through the cedar forests of the Middle Atlas, where Barbary macaques roam freely through the trees near Azrou. The elegant alpine town of Ifrane — known as “Little Switzerland” — is a pleasant contrast before the road descends into the Ziz Valley and the pre-Saharan south.

By late afternoon, the great dunes of Erg Chebbi rise on the horizon. You arrive at the foot of the dunes in time for a sunset camel ride into the heart of the Sahara. Dinner at the luxury desert camp is followed by an evening of Berber drumming and stargazing — with one of the darkest skies on earth overhead.

DAY 5: MERZOUGA DESERT → RISSANI → TODRA GORGE → DADES GORGE

An early rise for the sunrise over the dunes, then breakfast at the camp before heading west. Rissani, the historic town at the edge of the Sahara, is worth a brief stop — particularly on market days (Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday) when traders from across the region gather in the ancient souk.

From Rissani, the drive continues to Tinghir and the spectacular Todra Gorge. Walking under the sheer walls of the gorge — which rise over 300 metres on either side — is one of Morocco’s great natural experiences. After the canyon, the road winds through river valleys and palmeries to the Dades Gorge, where your hotel sits beneath dramatic canyon walls for the night.

DAY 6: DADES GORGE → OUARZAZATE → AIT BEN HADDOU → HIGH ATLAS MOUNTAINS → MARRAKECH

The final day is rich in beauty and history. From the Dades Gorge, you drive west through the Valley of Roses and into Ouarzazate — Morocco’s Hollywood — before stopping at the magnificent Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site of earthen towers that has featured in some of the world’s most iconic films and series.

After exploring the kasbah, the road climbs through the High Atlas Mountains via the spectacular Tizi n’Tichka Pass, offering sweeping views of the mountains and valleys below, before descending into the warmth of Marrakech. Drop-off at your hotel or riad in the evening.

Morocco’s official currency is the Moroccan Dirham (MAD). While major hotels and larger establishments tend to accept credit cards, smaller markets and towns generally operate on a cash-only basis, so it’s advisable to carry local currency.
