DAY 1: CASABLANCA → RABAT → FES

Your tour begins with a morning pick-up from Mohammed V International Airport, your hotel, or any point in Casablanca. Your first stop is the Hassan II Mosque — the largest mosque in Morocco and one of the most architecturally magnificent in the world, with its soaring minaret rising above the Atlantic Ocean. You will admire its stunning exterior and vast forecourt before heading north to the capital, Rabat.

In Rabat, you will visit the iconic Hassan Tower — the unfinished minaret of a 12th-century mosque that stands as one of Morocco’s most recognisable landmarks — alongside the elaborate Mausoleum of Mohammed V and the ancient Kasbah of the Udayas. After lunch in Rabat, the drive east takes you to Fes, where you will spend the night in a traditional riad within the ancient medina.

DAY 2: FES → IFRANE → MIDDLE ATLAS MOUNTAINS → ZIZ VALLEY → MERZOUGA DESERT

After breakfast at your riad, you leave Fes heading south and begin one of Morocco’s most dramatic cross-country drives. The route climbs through the cedar forests of the Middle Atlas, passing through the elegant town of Ifrane — sometimes called “the Switzerland of Morocco” for its alpine architecture and cool mountain climate.

Near Azrou, keep an eye out for Barbary macaques — wild monkeys that inhabit these ancient cedars and are famously bold with visitors. Continuing south, the landscape gradually shifts from forested mountains to the wide, open expanse of the Ziz Valley, where palm groves and ancient villages line the banks of the river.

By late afternoon the dunes of Erg Chebbi begin to glow on the horizon. You arrive at the edge of the desert in time for the most magical moment of the day — mounting your camel and riding into the heart of the dunes as the sun sinks below the sand in shades of amber and gold.

At your luxury desert camp, a traditional Moroccan dinner is served before the evening fills with the rhythms of live Berber drumming. Your private tent, with its own en-suite bathroom, awaits beneath a sky crowded with stars.

DAY 3: MERZOUGA → RISSANI → TODRA CANYON → DADES GORGES

Rise before dawn to watch the golden light of sunrise spread across the Erg Chebbi dunes. After breakfast at the camp, you leave the desert heading west through the historic market town of Rissani — the ancestral home of Morocco’s ruling Alaouite dynasty and, on market days (Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday), a vivid tableau of Saharan commerce.

The road west brings you to Tinghir and the extraordinary Todra Canyon. Walking between its towering walls of rock — rising over 300 metres on either side of a cool mountain stream — is one of the most awe-inspiring experiences of the journey. From the canyon, you continue west through the pre-Saharan valleys to the dramatic Dades Gorges, where your overnight hotel is nestled among the canyon walls.

DAY 4: DADES GORGES → OUARZAZATE → AIT BEN HADDOU KASBAH → HIGH ATLAS MOUNTAINS → MARRAKECH

The final day begins with a drive west through the Valley of Roses near Kelaat M’Gouna — famous for its rose water distilleries and springtime blooms — to Ouarzazate, Morocco’s “Hollywood,” home to the world’s largest film studio and a gateway between the Sahara and the Atlas.

From Ouarzazate, you visit the legendary Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou — a UNESCO World Heritage Site of extraordinary earthen towers that has starred in everything from Lawrence of Arabia to Game of Thrones. After exploring its ancient lanes, the road climbs back through the magnificent High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, descending into Marrakech where you are dropped at your accommodation in the evening.

Morocco’s official currency is the Moroccan Dirham (MAD). While major hotels and larger establishments tend to accept credit cards, smaller markets and towns generally operate on a cash-only basis, so it’s advisable to carry local currency.
