Our 3 Days Marrakech Desert Tour is the most popular choice among travellers looking for a balanced, rewarding Sahara adventure from the Red City. It offers the perfect blend of scenic driving through Morocco’s most dramatic landscapes, cultural encounters with southern Berber heritage, and an immersive desert experience in the Erg Chebbi dunes of Merzouga.

Over three days, you will cross the High Atlas Mountains, discover the ancient kasbahs and valleys of the south, trek by camel across the golden dunes, and spend a magical night in a luxury desert camp beneath the stars. The return journey loops back through the Draa River Valley and Ouarzazate, ensuring you see a rich variety of Morocco’s landscapes.

DAY 1: MARRAKECH → HIGH ATLAS MOUNTAINS → AIT BEN HADDOU → DADES VALLEY

An early morning pick-up from your Marrakech accommodation kicks off this three-day adventure. Your private vehicle heads south, climbing steadily through the winding passes of the High Atlas Mountains. The Tizi n’Tichka Pass, at over 2,260 metres, rewards with sweeping views of Berber villages and rocky peaks.

Your first cultural stop is the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou — a spectacular UNESCO-listed fortified village perched above the riverbed. Its ochre towers and labyrinthine lanes offer a compelling glimpse of pre-Saharan Moroccan life. You will continue to Ouarzazate — often called the “Gateway to the Sahara” — before heading east along the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs.

The day ends in the beautiful Dades Valley, where towering canyon walls glow in the last light of the day. Your hotel here is nestled among the gorges, making for an atmospheric first night.

DAY 2: DADES VALLEY → TINGHIR OASIS → TODRA GORGE → MERZOUGA DESERT

After breakfast, you head east toward Tinghir, where a lush palm oasis stretches along the valley floor — a vivid contrast to the surrounding red rock landscape. From here, you enter the Todra Gorge: towering 300-metre walls of rock press in on either side, creating a narrow, dramatic corridor that is one of Morocco’s great natural spectacles.

The afternoon drive brings you through increasingly arid desert terrain until the first sight of Erg Chebbi’s dunes appears on the horizon. You arrive at the dunes in time for the golden hour — the most beautiful moment to mount your camel and ride into the sea of sand. Dinner and an evening of Berber music around the campfire await at your luxury desert camp.

DAY 3: MERZOUGA DESERT → DRAA RIVER → OUARZAZATE → MARRAKECH

Rise early to catch the sunrise glowing over the dunes before breakfast. Today’s return journey takes a different route — heading west through the spectacular Draa River Valley, Morocco’s longest river, flanked by endless palmeries and ancient ksour (fortified villages).

You will pass through Ouarzazate once more before the road climbs back into the High Atlas Mountains for the final stretch to Marrakech, arriving by early evening.

How do I pay for my tour?

Paying for your tour is straightforward. A small upfront deposit is required at the time of booking to secure your spot — this can be sent via PayPal, bank transfer, or Wise. The outstanding balance is then settled directly with your driver or guide on the first day of your trip, accepted in euros, US dollars, or Moroccan dirhams.

Morocco’s official currency is the Moroccan Dirham (MAD). While major hotels and larger establishments tend to accept credit cards, smaller markets and towns generally operate on a cash-only basis, so it’s advisable to carry local currency.

Absolutely. The tour can be fully tailored to match your preferences — whether that means adding extra destinations, upgrading your accommodation, or switching to alternative transport such as a private 4×4 vehicle.
