6 DAYS PRIVATE DESERT TOUR FROM TANGIER TO MARRAKECH

Six days is the ideal amount of time to journey from Tangier to Marrakech with depth and without rushing. This 6 Days Tour from Tangier to Marrakech links the two cities through Morocco’s most extraordinary experiences — the mystical Blue City of Chefchaouen, the Roman ruins of Volubilis, the imperial grandeur of Meknes, a full guided day in the ancient medina of Fes, the golden dunes of the Sahara, the canyon landscapes of the south, and the timeless Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou before the final crossing of the High Atlas into Marrakech.

A dedicated guided day in Fes ensures you experience the medina’s full complexity — not merely passing through but genuinely discovering its mosques, madrasas, tanneries, and souks. A sunset camel ride in the Merzouga desert and a night in a luxury camp under the stars are the emotional core of the journey.

Every element is private, tailored, and delivered by a dedicated driver/guide throughout.

DAY 1: TANGIER → CHEFCHAOUEN

Your private driver collects you from Tangier airport, port, or hotel and the journey south begins. The road climbs into the Rif Mountains, arriving in Chefchaouen by afternoon — a city of extraordinary visual charm, its medina a dreamscape of blue-painted alleyways, arched doorways, and cascading bougainvillea.

The afternoon and evening are entirely yours: wander the medina’s winding blue lanes, browse the artisan shops, or simply sit with a glass of mint tea on a rooftop terrace and watch the mountain light change. Tonight, the Blue City is your own.

DAY 2: CHEFCHAOUEN → VOLUBILIS → MEKNES → FES

A morning of final exploration in Chefchaouen before the drive south. Your first major stop is Volubilis — the finest Roman archaeological site in Morocco, set on a hilltop above the Meknes plain and declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its preserved mosaics, triumphal arch, and ancient columns offer a remarkable window into Morocco’s pre-Islamic past.

From Volubilis, you continue to Meknes — one of Morocco’s four imperial cities, often overshadowed by its neighbours but full of extraordinary monuments. The monumental Bab Mansour gate, the granaries of Sultan Moulay Ismail, and a lively, relatively uncrowded medina make Meknes a rewarding stop. The final drive east brings you to Fes for the night.

DAY 3: GUIDED TOUR OF FES

An entire day in Fes el-Bali — the ancient walled city that is one of the most complex and fascinating urban environments in the world — with a specialist local guide. The Chouara Tanneries (viewed from a balcony above the vivid dye vats), the Bou Inania Madrasa, the Al-Qarawiyyin Mosque and University (the world’s oldest continuously operating university), the Jewish Mellah, and the craft souks of the medina are the day’s highlights. It is an immersion in living heritage that rewards the time invested.

DAY 4: FES → IFRANE → MIDDLE ATLAS MOUNTAINS → ZIZ VALLEY → MERZOUGA DESERT

An early departure south from Fes. The road climbs through the cedar forests of the Middle Atlas — with possible Barbary macaque sightings near Azrou — through the alpine town of Ifrane, and down into the long Ziz Valley. The landscape shifts from mountain green to desert gold as you approach the Sahara.

Arriving at the foot of the Erg Chebbi dunes in the late afternoon, you mount your camel for a golden-hour ride into the heart of the desert. The luxury desert camp receives you with warmth: a traditional dinner, live Berber music around the fire, and a private tent with en-suite bathroom beneath a sky overflowing with stars.

DAY 5: MERZOUGA DESERT → RISSANI → TODRA GORGE → DADES VALLEY

The desert sunrise, then breakfast at the camp and departure west. Rissani — the ancient market town at the edge of the Sahara — is followed by a drive to Tinghir and the extraordinary Todra Gorge. The canyon’s sheer limestone walls rise over 300 metres on either side of a mountain stream, creating a narrow, dramatic corridor that is one of Morocco’s most spectacular natural environments. The afternoon drive through palmeries ends in the Dades Valley for the night.

DAY 6: DADES VALLEY → OUARZAZATE → AIT BEN HADDOU → HIGH ATLAS MOUNTAINS → MARRAKECH

The final day is full and rewarding. The morning drive through the Valley of Roses and into Ouarzazate — Africa’s cinematic capital — leads to the magnificent Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site of earthen towers and fortified lanes. After exploring the kasbah, the Tizi n’Tichka Pass in the High Atlas provides a dramatic finale before the descent into Marrakech. Drop-off at your hotel or riad in the evening.

How do I pay for my tour?

Paying for your tour is straightforward. A small upfront deposit is required at the time of booking to secure your spot — this can be sent via PayPal, bank transfer, or Wise. The outstanding balance is then settled directly with your driver or guide on the first day of your trip, accepted in euros, US dollars, or Moroccan dirhams.

Morocco’s official currency is the Moroccan Dirham (MAD). While major hotels and larger establishments tend to accept credit cards, smaller markets and towns generally operate on a cash-only basis, so it’s advisable to carry local currency.

Absolutely. The tour can be fully tailored to match your preferences — whether that means adding extra destinations, upgrading your accommodation, or switching to alternative transport such as a private 4×4 vehicle.
