3 DAYS DUNES DESERT TOUR FROM MARRAKECH TO MERZOUGA

This 3 Days Tour from Marrakech to Merzouga is specifically designed for travellers who want to spend a full day immersed in the Merzouga desert — not just passing through. Unlike standard desert tours that arrive in the evening and leave the next morning, this itinerary gives you an entire day to explore the Sahara at your own pace.

You will arrive in Merzouga on the first night, staying at a charming riad with views of the dunes. The second day belongs entirely to the desert: ride camels, explore the dunes by 4×4, visit a local nomadic family, sandboard down the dunes, and sleep under the stars in a luxury desert camp. On the third day, you head back to Marrakech through the dramatic southern landscapes.

A visit to a nomadic Berber family in their desert home adds a unique cultural dimension to this journey — a rare and genuine exchange that will stay with you long after the trip is over.

– Spending a full day dedicated entirely to the Merzouga desert
– Staying overnight at a beautifully located riad surrounded by Erg Chebbi dunes
– Visiting a nomadic Berber family in the desert and discovering their way of life
– Riding camels across the Erg Chebbi dunes at both sunset and sunrise
– Exploring the desert by 4×4 vehicle
– Sandboarding down the dunes
– Sleeping under a breathtaking desert sky at a luxury camp
– Passing through the High Atlas Mountains and the Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah

DAY 1: MARRAKECH → HIGH ATLAS MOUNTAINS → AIT BEN HADDOU KASBAH → MERZOUGA DESERT

Your private driver picks you up from your accommodation in Marrakech early in the morning. The drive south takes you over the High Atlas Mountains along the Tizi n’Tichka Pass — a winding mountain route offering spectacular views of snow-capped peaks, Berber villages, and sweeping valleys below.

Along the way, you will stop at the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, one of Morocco’s most iconic and best-preserved examples of earthen architecture. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it rises dramatically from the valley floor and offers a captivating window into Morocco’s ancient past.

The landscape grows increasingly arid as you push further south and east. By evening, you will arrive at a charming riad at the foot of the Erg Chebbi dunes — a perfect first night base, with the sweeping dunes glowing outside your window.

DAY 2: FULL DAY TO DISCOVER THE MERZOUGA DESERT

Today is all about the desert. After an early rise to witness the sunrise over the dunes, you begin a full day of exploration in and around Merzouga.

The morning is spent exploring the desert by 4×4 — venturing off-road to visit the home of a nomadic family who have lived in these sands for generations. You will be welcomed into their world, gaining a rare and heartfelt understanding of nomadic Berber culture and traditions.

In the afternoon, you can try sandboarding down the soft slopes of the dunes, take tea with locals, or simply wander and absorb the extraordinary silence of the Sahara. As the sun begins to dip, you will mount your camel for a classic sunset ride through the dunes.

Your evening is spent at a luxury desert camp: dinner by candlelight, Berber music around the fire, and a private tent with its own bathroom for a deeply comfortable night in the desert.

DAY 3: MERZOUGA DESERT → AGDEZ → MARRAKECH

After a final sunrise moment and breakfast at the camp, it is time to head back to Marrakech. The return route passes through the ancient town of Agdez in the Draa Valley — a landscape of palmeries, kasbahs, and timeless Saharan light — before climbing back through the mountains to Marrakech, arriving in the early evening.
