Desert camping in Morocco’s Sahara is the experience that travelers talk about for the rest of their lives. Nothing in conventional tourism compares to sleeping under 4,000 visible stars in one of earth’s last great dark sky environments, waking to a sunrise that transforms the dunes from purple to gold before your eyes, and sharing a campfire dinner with Berber musicians whose ancestors have lived in this desert for three thousand years. This guide covers everything about the Morocco desert camping experience.
Types of Desert Camps in Morocco
Standard Desert Camps
Traditional Berber-style camps with comfortable shared-facility tents, quality mattresses and blankets, communal dining area, and genuine Berber hospitality. The atmosphere is authentic and magical — these are not glamorous, but they deliver the raw desert experience in an honest way. Included in most of our standard tour packages.
Luxury Desert Camps
Private ensuite tents with real beds and quality linen, private bathroom with hot shower, electricity, furnished private terrace, air conditioning (in summer), gourmet dining with a trained chef, and often a telescope for stargazing. Some luxury camps have small swimming pools fed by underground springs. These are available on our premium tours including the 4-Day Luxury Private Desert Tour from Marrakech and 5-Day Luxury Desert Tour Fes to Marrakech.
